Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre voted Third Favourite Wireless HotSpot in Asia Pacific

Travel News Asia 14 November 2005

Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre has joined the ranks of the most connected places in Asia in Intel’s Top 10 Asian Wireless Hotspots poll. Suntec Singapore was ranked third in the survey where business and leisure travelers picked the ten most scenic, convenient or unusual places to enjoy so-called wireless mobility.

Suntec Singapore was outranked only by two coffee places, traditional spots for Internet surfing. Hong Kong’s Pacific Coffee at the Peak was ranked number one, followed by Starbucks Coffee at Sydney’s Circular Quay. Singapore’s Changi Airport took the fourth spot, beating Beijing International Capital Airport, Shanghai’s Xintiandi, the Great Wall of China, and even South Korea’s Jeju Island.

Wireless ‘hotspot’ refers to an area where a technology is used to let Internet users get online through wireless connections, doing away with sockets, plug-ins or wires.

Suntec Singapore is also the only convention centre to be recognised in the poll. The poll also showed the increasing mobility for travelers to move outside the office, with or without their work, confirming that mobility has evolved from a business proposition to a consumer lifestyle. A total of 1,996 business and leisure travelers from more than 20 countries participated in the survey.

“We are delighted to be the only convention centre to top the list and are glad that more and more people are going wireless and taking their laptops to specific locations,” said Warren J Buckley, chief executive officer of Suntec Singapore. “As Asia’s leading convention centre, our delegates expect not just the best location for conventions, but the best infrastructure as well – and that includes facilities like telecommunications and internet connectivity.”
