Travel News Asia 1 March 2005

Galaxy Travel Distribution System has appointed three new regional directors of sales for Europe, Africa, Middle East and the Indian subcontinent.

Mr Norbert Salcher, Galaxy’s Regional Sales Director for Western Europe, has been appointed Regional Director of Sales – Eastern Europe & CIS Countries. In this newly-created position, Salcher will be responsible for developing and expanding Galaxy business in Belarus, Russia, Croatia, Bosnia, Herzegowina, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, all other CIS States, Slovenia, Albania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland.

“For the past two years, Salcher has been instrumental in establishing Galaxy’s necessary foundations in Western Europe,” announced Mr Marco Gorin, Galaxy’s Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing. “During this period, he has also shown a keen interest and ability in developing our presence in the dynamic Eastern European markets,” Gorin added.

Gorin went on to say “Like him, Galaxy believes in the potential of these markets and his appointment as Regional Director of Sales – Eastern Europe & CIS Countries is a sign of both his abilities and our commitment to constantly look for new opportunities and partners on a truly global scale.”

Mr Bruno Randone has been appointed Galaxy’s Regional Director of Sales for Western Europe. The position was previously held by Norbert Salcher who is now spearheading Galaxy sales in Eastern Europe and the CIS countries.

In his new capacity, Randone will be responsible for the UK, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Andorra, Benelux, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, The Baltic States, Greece, Turkey and Israel.

“Randone has been at the helm of one of Galaxy’s most dynamic National Marketing Companies in Western Europe, Galaxy NMC Mediterraneo, Rome Italy, for the last 18 months,” announced Gorin. “His coming on board as part of the Galaxy team to broaden his stage of activities and be responsible for the development of sales activities in this region is a natural progression. Randone is an individual with the necessary vision, know-how and drive to lead our activities in the region and Galaxy has great expectations of him,” stated Gorin.

In the newly created position of Regional Director of Sales for Africa, Middle East & Indian Subcontinent, Galaxy has appointed Mr Gregory Hough, who previously served as Managing Director for Travel Distribution Solutions, Johannesburg, South Africa.

“Thanks to Hough, our operations in Southern Africa, in countries like South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Botswana, Zambia, Angola and Mozambique, have been phenomenal and growing steadily since the beginning,” stated Gorin.

Gorin added that “Hough is a relentless, capable individual who is now ready to take up a much wider assignment as Regional Sales Director – Africa, Middle East and Indian Subcontinent. His appointment is a sign of our belief that there is much to be gained by establishing a more focused position in this region which, no doubt, holds a great deal of potential and must not be neglected.”

All three appointees will report directly to Gorin, manage and drive Galaxy’s sales network in their respective regions; actively promote Galaxy’s suite of solutions to suit both supply and distribution demand across the region and in support of other key regions world-wide; and negotiate and conclude key supplier and distributor agreements to substantially increase competitive and available inventory in support of growing global demand through Galaxy’s distribution platform.
