JW Marriott Bangkok launches Traditional Japanese Cooking Classes

Travel News Asia 12 September 2005

JW Marriott Bangkok’s “Mr Personality”, Chef Aki who heads up the team at the hotel’s Japanese Restaurants has launched a new Traditional Japanese Cooking Class. Starting from September onwards, on a monthly basis, two separate classes will be offered; one in Japanese and one in English.

Guests will be able to learn the art of Japanese cooking from Chef Aki, and enjoy the fruits of their labors at the conclusion of the class at a lunch. Chef Aki will share some of his secrets during a step by step hands-on demonstration of various techniques as the class creates their masterpieces alongside him. Classes are open to the public as well as hotel guests.

At each class, guests will learn how to prepare five different courses, including a sake cocktail, appetizer, salad, main course and dessert. This should give them the tools to prepare a banquet at home to impress family, friends and colleagues.

Chef Aki has a wealth of experience in traditional Japanese cuisine. He started his career at the Chef School in Tokyo and worked in several traditional Japanese restaurants in Tokyo before moving to New York and Los Angeles to gain more experience over a period of 13 years. Prior to his current appointment, he was the Head Chef at the famous Wasabi Sabi Restaurant in Hong Kong.

The next classes are schedule as follows: Japanese language class - September 15, 2005; and English narration on October 1, 2005. Both sessions start at 8.50 am and conclude at 1.30 pm. Seats are limited at 12 persons per class.

Each participant will receive a specially designed souvenir apron and a Cooking Class Certificate which will be presented upon the completion of the class. The cost of the class is Baht 1,900 (approx $US48.00) nett per person.
