Finnair to launch direct Helsinki - Krakow flights

Travel News Asia 12 July 2005

Finnair is to launch direct flights between Helsinki and Krakow in spring 2006. The airline will operate its newest aircraft type, the 76 seat Embraer E170 on this route. The first of these aircraft is arriving in September.

Finnair SVP Corporate Communications, Christer Haglund, said, "The new route continues the enforcement of our Asian strategy. Krakow is a very interesting destination not only for Europeans but passengers from Asia as well."

Krakow's old town is on the UNESCO world heritage list. Its medieval buildings and streets have remained safe through turbulent times. Krakow hosts one of the oldest universities in the world, dating back to the 14th century, and the city has been the centre of Polish cultural life for hundreds of years.

Day trips can be done by bus to the Wileiczka salt mines, which are over 300 metres deep and where salt mining has been practiced since medieval times. Reminding of the Second World War, the Auschwitz Concentration Camp is located close to Krakow.

The price level in Poland make evenings out and shopping very affordable. Finnair flies to Krakow's international airport which is named after Pope John Paul II.
