LAN Airlines expands South America Airpass

LAN Airlines has introduced a comprehensive new airpass for travel throughout South America, using its airline operations within Chile, Ecuador, Peru and now Argentina to accommodate soaring tourism to the region.

The new LAN Visit South America Airpass offers a wide range of options within and between the countries of South America, and also includes flights on the popular route between between Easter Island and Santiago.

Priced from just US$85 plus tax for a one way sector, the LAN Airpass is valid for travel from now until 31 December, 2006, for a maximum stay of six months.

“This airpass provides a vast network and great flexibility for the growing number of visitors to South America,” said Lars Olofsson, National Sales Manager for LAN’s Australian representative, World Aviation Systems.

“The countries of South America are experiencing enormous growth in tourism from around the world, including Australia, and from 5 November LAN will increase from four to five weekly Airbus A340 flights between Sydney and Santiago,” he said.

There are three distinct segments of the LAN Visit South America Airpass, which offers scaled pricing based on a minimum purchase of three single-sector coupons. In all cases, local taxes are additional, vary according to the route travelled and can change without notice. As well, security and fuel surcharges of US$15 are charged with every four coupons.

In Peru, a one-way flight of up to 1060 miles aboard LAN Peru is priced at US$86 per sector for travel commenced in 2005, and US$89 per sector for travel in 2006.

This pricing also applies in Argentina on the newly-formed LAN Argentina for flights of up to 1060 miles, increasing to US$115 per sector for journeys of 1061 – 1400 miles and US$143 per sector for journeys of 1401-10,000 miles.

For flights within Chile, or on regional routes within South America, one-way fares start at US$85 for 0-559 miles; US$104 per sector of 560-1199 miles; US$127 per sector of 1200-1599 miles; US$173 per sector of 1600-1999 miles; and US$199 per sector for journeys between 2000 and 10,000 miles.

As well, there is a one-way fare of US$257 for flights between Easter Island and Santiago.

The LAN Visit South America Airpass can only be purchased outside South America and in conjunction with an international flight to the region. It is available for travel up to six months, and permits each sector to be flown only once in the same direction.
