Malaysia Airlines Integrates Its Subang Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport Operations With KLIA

21 June 2002

Come 1st July 2002, Malaysia Airlines commercial flight operations in Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (SAAS), Subang will be integrated with its operations at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), consistent with the Malaysian Government's recent decision to confine SAAS for propeller aircraft flight operations.

Malaysia Airlines' will operate its last commercial flight out of SAAS on 30 June 2002, MH1984 to Kota Bahru at 8.30 p.m whilst its last arrival into the airport on that day will be MH1973 from Kuala Trengganu at 9.35 p.m.

To facilitate the smooth migration of its commercial flight operations from SAAS to KLIA, Malaysia Airlines has scheduled the following flights to arrive in KLIA instead of SAAS on 30 June 2002.

MH2911 arriving from Kuching at 9.10 p.m
MH1935 arriving from Penang at 10.00 p.m
MH1921 arriving from Alor Setar at 10.30 p.m
MH1985 arriving from Kota Bahru at 10.50 p.m

All passengers of the above flights have been duly updated of this development. Passengers and members of the public are encouraged to call Malaysia Airlines toll free number 1-300-88-3000 for further information on the matter.

The migration is timely as passengers have the choice of using the KLIA Ekspres, a high speed non-stop rail service by Express Rail Link (ERL) that connects KLIA and KL City Air Terminal (KLCAT) at KL Sentral, Kuala Lumpur in just 28 minutes. The ERL service comes complete with passenger and baggage check-in facility at KLCAT that is integrated with the operations at KLIA.

The KLCAT's strategic location in KL Sentral is a better alternative to SAAS as it is situated in the most modern transit hub of Malaysia, offering varied modes of convenient, fast and affordable ground connections linking KLIA with Klang Valley suburbs like Sentul, Kelana Jaya, Segambut, Wangsa Maju and Bandar Tasik Selatan as well as neighboring towns like Shah Alam, Klang, Rawang and Kajang.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines will continue to maintain its ticket office at SAAS, which will operate as follows effective 1 July 2002:-

Monday to Friday 8.30 a.m till 5.30 p.m
1st Saturday of the month Closed
Other Saturdays 8.30 a.m till 1.00 p.m
All Sundays Closed

Malaysia Airlines commenced flight operations at SAAS since it took to the skies effective 1 October 1972. It shifted its operations to KLIA effective 1 July 1998 but on 25 October 1998, it resumed some domestic flights into and out of SAAS. With the final integration of its commercial flight operations in KLIA, Malaysia Airlines is better poised to aggressively complement the Malaysian government's efforts to promote KLIA as the premier commercial aviation hub in this part of the world.
