Air Astana, Kazakhstan’s principal airline, has launched new services from Almaty to Tbilisi, capital of Georgia and Samara in southern Russia. Both services will be operated by a new Embraer E-190 on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The flight time from Almaty to Tbilisi is 4 hours, and 3hours 30 minutes to Samara.

The Departamento de Controle do Espaço Aéreo (DECEA), Brazil’s air navigation service provider, is upgrading its technology ahead of the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016. The latest improvement is the deployment of the D-VOLMET service using SITA AIRCOMevamet, which provides live weather information to aircraft during flights over a dedicated data link.

IATA has revised upward its global aviation outlook for 2012. The fall in airline profits from the $8.4 billion that the industry earned in 2011 will be cushioned by improved airline performance.
