Qatar Airways has signed a contribution and shareholders agreement with Alisarda, the parent company of Meridiana the second largest carrier in Italy. The agreement provides for Qatar Airways to purchase 49% of Meridiana fly’s shares, subject to the fulfilment of certain conditions, before the closing which is planned for early October.

Air Astana, Kazakhstan’s principal airline, has launched new services from Almaty to Tbilisi, capital of Georgia and Samara in southern Russia. Both services will be operated by a new Embraer E-190 on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The flight time from Almaty to Tbilisi is 4 hours, and 3hours 30 minutes to Samara.

Boeing has been chosen as the prime contractor for the U.S. Air Force’s Eagle Passive Active Warning Survivability System (EPAWSS). The new electronic warfare suite is designed to counter threats and better protect air crews. The contract is valued at US$4 billion.
