The Bali Hotels Association (BHA) has released the results of one of its key 2011 environmental initiatives. Say No to Disposable Plastics saw 30 BHA member hotels participate, with an average reduction of this type of plastic from May to November 2012 of 23%, exceeding the set goal of 20%.
7. Phuket Hotels Association Partners U.S. Embassy Science Fellowship Program
The Phuket Hotels Association has joined forces with the U.S. Embassy Science Fellowship (ESF) Program with the aim of eliminating single-use plastics at the island’s hotels. Founded in 2001, the ESF Program promotes bilateral cooperation in the fields of science and technology. Since it was launched, nearly 300 scientists have provided their expertise to projects around the world.
8. Hong Kong to Host Landmark Ocean Summit
A range of speakers will showcase innovative solutions to the global crisis of plastics in our oceans at a landmark Ocean Summit in Hong Kong later this month. As part of the territory’s first ever involvement with the Volvo Ocean Race, the Ocean Summit aims to inspire individuals, businesses, government and local communities to take action to turn the tide on plastic.
