1. Korean Air to Add Nine Aircraft to Fleet in 2013
Korean Air is to introduce nine additional next-generation aircraft to its fleet in 2013; two A380s, one A330-200, two B777-300ERs, two B737-900ERs, one B747-8F and one B777F. The arrival of the addition two A380s in July and October 2013, will bring the number of Korean Air’s A380s to eight.
2. IAG Cargo Signs Agreement to Purchase Capacity on Qatar Airways Freighters
IAG Cargo has signed a long-term commercial agreement to purchase capacity on Qatar Airways-operated air cargo freighters, effective from 1 May 2014. Qatar Airways will operate five B777F flights a week between Hong Kong and London, via Doha, on behalf of IAG Cargo, providing continuity of service for IAG Cargo customers.
3. Etihad to Launch Guangzhou Cargo Services
Etihad Cargo will launch a new direct weekly freighter operation from Abu Dhabi to the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, effective 17 January 2013. The new cargo service will operate every Thursday using an Airbus A330-200F freighter, with a capacity of 68 metric tonnes.
4. Etihad Cargo Expands Network
Etihad Cargo has added Washington D.C. to its global cargo network, in addition to boosting frequency to Hong Kong courtesy of strategic partner Air Seychelles. The US capital is Etihad Cargo’s fifth destination in North America, while Hong Kong is already part of the carrier’s five-destination Greater China cargo network.
5. Etihad Cargo Posts Record January Tonnage
Etihad Cargo has posted record monthly uplift figures for January of 32,613 tonnes, a 27% increase on January 2012 (25,600 tonnes). In its annual results announced two weeks ago, Etihad Cargo reported annual tonnage growth of 19% for 2012 on the back of a capacity increase of 14% in Available Tonnage Kilometres.
6. Etihad Cargo Certifies Swissport International as Preferred Handling Partner
Etihad Cargo has certified international ground handling services company Swissport International as its first Preferred Handling Partner (PHP). The two-year PHP certification with Swissport is focused initially on six Etihad Cargo stations; Athens, Geneva, Larnaca, Nairobi, Seoul and Toronto.
7. Ascott Signs Somerset Ekamai Bangkok
Ascott has signed a contract to manage its first mixed-use development in Thailand. Somerset Ekamai Bangkok is surrounded by several office buildings, an international school, shopping malls and plenty of upscale bars, restaurants and cafes. The property will offer convenient access to the Ekamai BTS station and expressway that link it to these areas.
8. Munich Airport to Provide Expertise to Taoyuan International Airport
Munich Airport has signed an agreement to provide expert support to Taoyuan International Airport Corporation Ltd. (TIAC) on two major projects. Taoyuan Airport, situated 30 kilometers to the west of the Taiwanese capital, Taipei, plans to redesign and expand its existing Terminal 2 and add a third terminal with capacity for 45 million passengers per year.
