17. Severe Capacity Crunch in Air Cargo; ACTKs Down 42% in April 2020
IATA's global air freight market data for April 2020 shows that demand dropped 27.7% compared to the same period in 2019 - the sharpest fall ever recorded. Still, there was insufficient capacity to meet demand as a result of the loss of belly cargo operations on passenger aircraft.

IATA's May 2021 data for global air cargo markets shows that demand continued its strong growth trend. Asia-Pacific airlines saw demand for international air cargo increase 5.3% in May 2021 compared to the same month in 2019. 20. Air Freight Demand Flat in November 2018
IATA's latest data for global air freight markets shows that demand, measured in freight tonne kilometers (FTKs), was flat (0%) in November 2018 when compared to the same month in 2017. Freight capacity, measured in available freight tonne kilometers (AFTKs), rose by 4.3% year-on-year in November 2018. This was the ninth month in a row that capacity growth outstripped demand.

Asia-Pacific airlines saw freight demand increase by just 1.5% in June 2018 compared to the same period last year. Capacity increased by 5.2%. 22. AeroGround Secures Deals with Etihad Airways and AirBridgeCargo
AeroGround, Munich Airport's ground handling subsidiary, has secured a long-term contract for landside and airside passenger and aircraft handling services with the Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways. A full handling agreement has also been signed with the Russian cargo airline AirBridgeCargo (ABC).
23. Etihad to Increase Chengdu Cargo Capacity
Etihad Cargo will enhance its Chinese cargo services later this month when it increases bellyhold cargo capacity between Abu Dhabi and Chengdu. Effective 30 March 2014, cargo capacity to and from Chengdu will grow 40% to 930 tonnes per month, a result of the current five times a week Airbus A330 passenger service between Abu Dhabi and Chengdu moving to a daily operation.
24. Hong Kong Int. Airport Handled Just 71,000 Passengers in January
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) handled 71,000 passengers and 11,365 flight movements in January 2021, year-on-year decreases of 98.8% and 65.8%, respectively. During the month, cargo throughput saw year-on-year growth of 14.1% to 409,000 tonnes, while freighter movements surged 37.2% to 6,055 from 4,413 compared with the same month last year.
