DTCM TO ORGANIZE CLEAN UP DRIVE IN HATTA

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing’s (DTCM) Environmental Tourism Task Force (ETTF) has announced a clean up campaign in Hatta area on Thursday 11th April 2002.

“The DTCM is adopting a hands-on approach to effect change within Dubai’s tourism and hospitality sector and related industries by creating awareness,” said DTCM Manager Licensing and Classification and Chairman of the ETTF, Khalid bin Touq.

He noted that the job of the ETTF was focused beyond mere policy statements. “We endeavor to improve the environment in ways that enhance the overall quality of life in the emirate for both residents and visitors alike,” remarked Mr. bin Touq.

The ETTF was formed by the DTCM last year to steer environmental activities in the tourism and hospitality sector and play a pro-active role in protecting the environment.

The clean up in Hatta would involve more than 300 volunteers from Dubai’s public and private sector including volunteers and support involving provision of 4WD vehicles, pickups, buses and other amenities.

In addition to cleaning up of the ground surfaces, divers from the Emirates Diving Association will also clean up the pools around Hatta region.

The DTCM has been involved in a series of major environmental initiatives, including the staging of the first-ever environmental workshop for hoteliers and the real estate industry along with specific tourism industry Best Practice Workshops that focused on energy, water conservation and waste management.

The DTCM has also participated in major international environmental campaigns such as the ‘Clean-Up’ the World campaign in 1999 that captured the interest of communities worldwide and also at a local level, a variety of clean-up campaigns have been successfully organized by DTCM with industry support in popular tourist sites and beauty spots within the emirate.
