Cathay Pacific Airways today announced that it will, in response to increasing market demand, add a fourth weekly flight to Colombo, Sri Lanka. This additional flight, starting 4 August 2002, will offer more choice to both passengers and cargo customers, and make more efficient use of Cathay Pacific aircraft.
Flight CX703 will depart Hong Kong every Sunday, making one stop in Bangkok. The return flight CX700 from Colombo will return via Bangkok the following morning. The airline will operate the service with a Boeing 777-300 configured with 59 Business Class seats and an enlarged 323-seat Economy Class cabin. The aircraft also offers significant capacity in the belly hold to handle increasing cargo traffic from Colombo.
The new flight will utilise an aircraft currently parked overnight in Bangkok after its existing scheduled flight from Hong Kong. It will now make the additional return trip to Colombo in time to provide its regular morning service from Bangkok to Hong Kong.
Cathay Pacific Director Corporate Planning Augustus Tang said: "There is increasing demand from Colombo, in particular for additional cargo capacity. By making use of an aircraft that would otherwise be on the ground we are able to respond to this demand from the marketplace and give Cathay Pacific customers a better service with more choice."
