Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Asia is delighted to present a series of black tie Gala Dinners from May 12 to 17 at their hotels in Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo and Shanghai honouring Primum Familiae Vini, an association of the world's top eleven wine families. Whether a novice or a seasoned wine connoisseur, this rare partnership of the world's top wine families from Europe and America and four of Asia's top hotels, will immerse anyone appreciative of fine food and wine into a fun, festive and indulgent gala. A member of each Primum Familiae Vini family will be on hand to celebrate and represent their vineyard.

Primum Familiae Vini, the "first families of wine", known as PFV, is an international association limited to a maximum of 12 wine families. Officially created in 1993, membership is by invitation only and all decisions have to be approved unanimously. Each family owns vineyard estates, is among the most prestigious wine producers of its region, and produces wines that enjoy an international reputation.

The Four Seasons culinary teams in Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo and Shanghai will create their own gala dinner ensuring that the finest local ingredients and produce are showcased. The dinner will commence with a champagne reception and each course will be paired with two or three wines.

The Primum Familiae Vini concept was first conceived during an informal meeting between Miguel Torres and Robert Drouhin in 1990. It soon became clear that both families shared the same philosophy, and both experienced the same problems facing family businesses. The idea of an association of similar companies began to grow, and by the following year they were joined by representatives of three more families: Robert Mondavi, Symington and Piero Antinori, who hosted the group in Florence. During the period from 1992 to 1993, various meetings were held, in Beaune at Drouhin in 1992; in Vilafranca del Penedes at Torres and in Oporto with the Symington family in 1993. The philosophy and aims of Primum Familiae Vini were established, its statutes defined, and new members co-opted in order to form a group of twelve families in all.

The families which comprise Primum Familiae Vini are conscious they each share a common ambition of excellence and efficiency, they are custodians of a part of their respective national heritages, and they face the same problems of fiscal pressure and the transmission of the family business to the next generation.
