Emirates Launches New Careers Website

22 May 2002

Emirates is launching a new careers website to help it to continue to attract top quality employees from Dubai and around the world in its drive to double its workforce by the end of the decade.

The airline, part of the Emirates Group, already receives thousands of applications a month from hopefuls wanting to be a part of Emirates success story.

Its Emirates Group parent expects to have more than 35,000 employees by 2010 as it expands its fleet of 39 Airbus and Boeing aircraft, already one of the world’s youngest with an average age of only 37 months, to 100-plus by the year 2010.

www.emiratesgroupcareers.com, the new web-based Emirates Group Career Centre, is designed to communicate to job seekers around the world the values of people, service and innovation behind a brand name which already makes it the regional airline employer of choice.

As well as comprehensive details on the Group, it features a vacancies job board, details of career options and employee benefits, and information on Dubai and its advantages as a lifestyle location suitable for both individuals and families.

Careers within the Emirates Group span the aviation, travel and leisure, IT and telecommunications, medical, cargo and engineering fields.

Emirates’ current US$15 billion order book will see its fleet grow to 100 aircraft by 2010, and expansion is now under way in its Airport Services, Cargo, IT, Tourism and Hospitality businesses.

Maurice Flanagan, Group Managing Director, says: “Continuing to attract talented people from both Dubai and all around the world is essential to maintain our remarkable track record.

“We achieve what we do because of our people. We choose them very carefully and, just as importantly, they choose us very carefully.

"Our challenge now is to recognise what motivates and appeals to the talented people whom we are seeking so we can continue to grow and be as successful in years to come, just as we have since our first flight in 1985,” Mr Flanagan said.

Rick Helliwell, Emirates’ Manager Recruitment, said: "In today’s global jobs market, talented employees have more choice than ever on where to work and whom to work for, as they seek to combine career satisfaction with a good lifestyle.

“Here at Emirates we regard people as the real keys to our success. We are truly international, with people from more than 100 countries creating diversity in the workforce and contributing to the innovative thinking which has driven our success."

Particularly important on the new site is building in e-Communication functionality to ensure quality two-way contact with people considering careers with the Group.

Mr Helliwell says: “We had well over 100,000 applications last year and expect even more this year. Being able to handle communications efficiently, and identifying the right people to fill our vacancies, are vital to providing top class customer service.”

Emirates has also developed an On-line Joining system so more recruits can complete ‘paperwork’ electronically, a key move to improve speed and service for applicants from overseas.

Established in 1985, Emirates Airline has a fleet of 39 aircraft serving 58 cities in 41 countries and has won more than 200 international awards. So far this year it has started new services to Casablanca and Khartoum, with Mauritius, Perth and Osaka joining its network later this summer.
