More flights and bigger aircraft from Qantas to Hamilton Island, Australia

15 May 2002

Qantas will operate new non-stop flights between Melbourne and Hamilton Island (Australia) on Fridays and Sundays from 12 July on Boeing 737 aircraft.

Qantas Group General Manager Australia Sales Ian Mitchell also announced an increase in flights and larger aircraft on services between Sydney and Hamilton Island 12 July and between Brisbane and Hamilton Island from 4 July.

"These new services will provide travellers from Melbourne with the most convenient airline service to the heart of the very popular Whitsunday Island region. Connections are also available from Hamilton Island to the nearby Whitsunday Island's of Hayman, Club Med Lindeman and Daydream.

"Qantas will operate more than 25 jet aircraft services each week between eastern Australian capital cities to Hamilton Island," he said.

In the expanded schedule, Qantas will also add a Saturday return service between Sydney and Hamilton Island using a Boeing 737-300 aircraft. This is an additional flight to the twice-daily Boeing 717 service which currently operates between Sydney and Hamilton Island," he said.

Qantas will also add two new weekly services on Tuesdays and Thursdays between Brisbane and Hamilton Island using British Aerospace 146 jet aircraft.

Mr Mitchell said the current daily Brisbane/Hamilton Island services would also be upgraded to the larger 737-400 aircraft, which will provide an additional 22 seats each way per day.

"These flights are available for sale from tomorrow." he added.

Qantas first operated services to Hamilton Island in November 1998.
