Finnair Treats Business Class Passengers to Crayfish

Search ASIA Travel Tips .com 11 August 2002

Business Class passengers on Finnair flights to New York will be treated to crayfish as part of the in-flight menu from August 14 to 28. The genuine Finnish crayfish will be delivered fresh from the waters of Lake Saimaa at Savonlinna in eastern Finland, and prepared according to the expert instructions of the chefs at the kitchens of Finnair Catering Oy.

Crayfish is a traditional delicacy in the late summer in Finland and is consumed at special crayfish parties. In keeping with tradition, the crayfish on Finnair flights will be served with toast, dill and lemon as well as the appropriate Finnish schnapps accompaniment. Special souvenir utensils will be supplied that meet security requirements while also rising to the challenge of cracking the hard crayfish shells.

Finnair Business Class meals offer a wide range of food and drink, served by specially trained expert Service Chefs. The place of crayfish as a menu appetizer will be taken later in the autumn, for example, by another Finnish delicacy, smoked vendace.

This is the third consecutive year that Finnair has included crayfish on its Business Class menu, and the customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with some passengers even breaking into traditional song in true crayfish party style.

Finnair continues to be authorised to display the prestigious Chaine de Rotisseurs at the entrance to MD11 Business Class cabins in recognition of the high standard of catering on scheduled flights.
