Travel News Asia 6 August 2004

Marriott International has opened its first Marriott managed resort in China, the new Sanya Marriott Resort & Spa.

The 455-room resort operates under a management agreement with Sanya Jahwa Resort Development Company, Ltd., a subsidiary of Jahwa Group which has core businesses in manufacturing and trading of cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, mineral water and real estate development. The general manager is Robert Lohrmann, and the director of marketing Annie Shum.

The hotel is offering a special rate of $114USD plus tax, surcharge and government tax for a deluxe oceanview room and buffet breakfast for two. This offer is valid through the end of September.

Located on the southern tip of Hainan Island, at approximately the same latitude as Hawaii, Sanya is the only tropical island in China. The city is served by the Phoenix International Airport, which offers flights to all major domestic Chinese cities as well as to international destinations such as Seoul and Hong Kong. The Sanya Marriott Resort & Spa is perfectly situated along the shores of the South China Sea on an exquisite stretch of white sand beach.

Accommodations at the Sanya Marriott Resort & Spa feature well appointed guest rooms all with generous balconies offering sea, mountain and golf course views. For dining and entertainment, the resort offers 3 restaurants and a poolside grill. Its casual restaurant features a grand buffet as well as a la carte service; its Chinese restaurant features regional cuisine from mainland China; and its specialty restaurant offers South Asian cuisine.

Recreational amenities include a health and fitness center with sauna/steam room and massage service, three swimming pools, two tennis courts and the 18 hole Yalong Bay Golf Club. The resort also features a relaxing Marriott spa with outdoor pavilions amongst lush gardens facing the South China Sea.

The resort features meeting facilities designed to accommodate any type of special event, including an 830-square meter Grand Ballroom. In addition, the resort will offer five 70-square meter meeting rooms and a boardroom. All meeting space is equipped with high speed broadband internet and audio visual services.
