Dubai heads to Switzerland and Austria for Roadshow

Travel News Asia 27 May 2004

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is organizing a series of three road shows in Switzerland and Austria from June 1 as part of the aggressive agenda it has set for itself to further promote Dubai in overseas markets as an ideal year-round business and leisure destination.

The road shows in Bern, Zurich and Vienna have attracted 17 co-participants from public and private sectors, including Emirates Airlines and Dubai Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).

Addressing a pre-fair meeting at the DTCM Head Office, the DTCM Manager Overseas Promotions, Mr. Khalifa Ali Buamaim, said: “The road shows are being conducted in the two crucial markets for the third consecutive year. The Dubai delegation will comprise of over 30 members, including representatives of the co-participating organizations and DTCM officials. The attendees of the three-day road shows will be tour operators, travel agents and representatives of incentive houses, airlines and media organizations.”

“There has been a constant year-on-year increase in visitors from this part of the world. Swiss and Austrian visitors find Dubai an ideal destination given the year-round sunshine, pristine beaches, safe and clean living environs and countless shopping and dining options,” remarked Mr. Buamaim.

The participants of these shows will be updated on the latest developments in Dubai and the initiatives undertaken by the department to take the destination to new heights in the foreseeable future.

Switzerland and Austria are considered as high-yield markets by the global tourism industry. These markets contributed significantly in the growth achieved by the emirate. Last year, Dubai hotel establishments received close to five million guests, up by five per cent compared with the previous year.

There will be raffle draws in each city with Emirates Airlines providing two tickets for the win-a-trip to Dubai in each city. The Le Meridien Beach Resort and Spa Dubai and Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina will provide free stay vouchers to the winners.

Three tour operators – Net Group, Alpha Tours and Travco Travel Dubai – will take care of the local transfers, city tours, Dhow trip and the adventurous Desert Safari tours for the winners.
