Laguna Phuket offers free Wi-Fi Hot Spots

Travel News Asia 25 August 2004

Phuket’s first free Wi-Fi (short for Wireless Fidelity) hot spots are now available at Laguna Phuket’s shopping centre – Canal Village. Despite many recent comments in Thai newspaper columns regarding the lack of speed in internet connections on the island, Laguna Phuket has forged ahead to install Wi-Fi hot spots, which are areas that allow high-speed wireless internet access, much like a reception zone for a mobile phone.

And to those who are disgruntled by the general high rates charged for the use of Wi-Fi services, Laguna Phuket will be providing its Wi-Fi hot spots free for customers of Canal Village’s Village Bakery.

With more travellers and web surfers demanding convenient wireless access these days, it is “essential that Laguna Phuket, an established resort complex, provides this value-added service to all our guests and Phuket residents,” says Mr James Batt, Managing Director of Laguna Resorts & Hotels.

The advantage of using Wi-Fi is that it gives both leisure and business travellers more mobility and flexibility. Instead of being confined to a hotel room and tied to a cable modem, guests can keep in touch with their family and friends, surf the internet, be on top of their email correspondences or even catch up on some work from a comfortable seat in a Wi-Fi hot spot at the Village Bakery while enjoying a cuppa.

“We also recognise the need for our guests to enjoy these Wi-Fi hot spots hassle free, as all vacation experiences at Laguna Phuket should be, so we’ve decided to offer this service free-of-charge to them.”

What’s more, with the Island’s first free Wi-Fi hot spots now available centrally at Laguna Phuket’s Canal Village, Phuket residents will also find it an added convenience as they only need to bring along their Wi-Fi enabled laptop or PDA to enjoy the service.
