Travel News Asia 25 May 2004

The Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai has completed its new "Al Shams" Presidential Suite bringing the total hotel inventory to 301 rooms and suites, 126 serviced furnished apartments and 62 Residences.

Al Shams, which means "The Sun" in Arabic, is spread over an impressive 435 square metres and is located on the top two floors of the hotel. Providing the ultimate in modern-day opulence, the Dhs10,000 a night Al Shams Presidential Suite comprises a study; a majlis (receiving area) with a two-storey high ceiling with full length picture windows overlooking the Arabian Gulf; dining room (which accommodates 12 guests); pantry; master and second bedroom with separate seating areas and bathrooms; and a large private terrace ideal for dining, private sun bathing or just enjoying the panoramic view of Dubai and the Gulf.

Designed by LW Design, an exotic combination of traditional materials such as rich walnut wood, leather, natural fibres and Italian marble blend harmoniously with original art pieces and all the modern-day conveniences of a luxury home: Bang and Olufsen plasma screen home theatre system, music centre; fax machine; laptop computer; and two Jacuzzi bathrooms - each with dedicated TV monitors.

Al Shams Suite guests are entitled to Horizon Club privileges such as express check-in and check-out at the Club Lounge on level 41; daily breakfast; free internet access and use of a meeting room; a dedicated health club and indoor swimming pool on level 42 and much more.

The hotel has also expanded its executive facilities known as the Horizon Club. The conversion of the entire 39th level to Horizon Club rooms and suites is a result of the increasing demand for this exclusive accommodation category.

The Horizon Club now spans levels 39 to 42 and caters toward the special needs of business travellers who are seeking the ultimate in personalised services and special privileges.

Offering a total of 60 guest rooms and suites with spectacular views from the top floors of the majestic Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai building, the Horizon Club sets itself apart from other Executive Clubs in Dubai with its own private health club and indoor swimming pool with sundeck, exclusively for the use of Horizon Club guests.

"Since our opening in July last year, the hotel has continued to attract an increasing number of frequent travellers from around the globe. The demand for our Horizon Club facilities has been overwhelming, so much so, we had to take steps to increase the number of rooms and suites available. With an additional floor added to the room inventory more guests have the opportunity to experience the higher standard of accommodation that the Horizon Club offers as well as the acclaimed personalised service, special privileges and amenities." says Bernhard Haechler, general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai.
