Jet Airways goes International

Jet Airways marks its foray into the international skies today by linking Colombo in Sri Lanka with Chennai in India.

A Next Generation Boeing 737-800 in its distinctive corporate livery of blue with the yellow Flying Sun gleaming on its tail landed in Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport at 1320 hours (local time) on Tuesday, March 23, 2004. 

The daily flight 9W 4101 (Chennai-Colombo) flew with the senior management team of Jet Airways led by its Chief Executive Officer, Wolfgang Prock-Schauer from Chennai on its maiden flight to the Capital of the Island Nation of Sri Lanka. The aircraft had a full complement of passengers. Being the first inaugural international flight of Jet Airways, it was received with full honours and festivity in ethnic traditional style.

The daily flight 9W 4101 (Chennai-Colombo) left at 1130 hours and arrived in Colombo at 1320 hours. The return flight 9W 4102 (Colombo-Chennai) will depart Colombo at 1445 hours and arrive Chennai 1535 hours.

The one way Economy Class fare on the Chennai-Colombo sector will be INR 4,145 and Club Premiere (Business Class) INR 6,615. Passengers can also avail of the normal return fares of INR 8,285 in the Economy Class and INR 13,220 in Club Premiere.

Till March 31, 2004 the one way Economy Class fare on Colombo-Chennai sector will be LKR 8,500 and Club Premiere LKR 13,200. From April 01 till further notice the Economy Class fare on the sector will be LKR 9,000 and in Business Class LKR 13,900.

Jet Airways has also announced several inaugural fares so as to enhance traffic from various points in India to Sri Lanka. From March 23 to April 30, 2004, Jet Airways will offer a special return excursion fare of INR 7,460 on the Chennai-Colombo-Chennai sectors. 

All flights to and from Colombo will be operated by the Next-Generation Boeing 737-700/800 aircraft, with upgraded inflight and ground services.

This linking of Colombo with Chennai is consequent to the historic initiative taken by the Prime Ministers of Sri Lanka and India to promote trade and movement of peoples between the two neighbouring countries.
