Finnair to launch flights to Venice, Italy

Travel News Asia 20 September 2004

Finnair is to launch a scheduled service to Venice, Italy in March. The destination is especially popular in the summer among Asian and Finnish travellers. Flights will be operated twice a week on Mondays and Fridays in the summer season until the end of October.

"There is a lot of demand for Italy both in Finland and especially in Asia. Italy is one of the most popular destinations in the Japanese and Chinese markets. The Venice flights naturally have excellent connections to our Asian network," said Petteri Kostermaa VP Network Strategies and Management.

"Venice is also an excellent starting point for touring by car to Verona, holiday destinations on the Adriatic Sea, Florence, Tuscany and elsewhere. The surrounding Veneto area is important business travel destination. A large proportion of Italy's shoe and clothes manufacturers are located there. The area is also important for Finnair's business and leisure travel sales from Italy." Kostermaa added.

In addition to Venice, Finnair is to fly twice a day to Milan and once a day to Rome next summer. On Mondays, the Venice flights depart from Helsinki at 4.30pm and arrive in Venice at 6.15pm. The departure from Venice is at 7pm and arrival in Helsinki at 10.45 pm. On Friday mornings the flight departs from Helsinki at 9.30am arriving in Venice at 11.15am with the return from Venice leaving at noon and landing in Helsinki at 3.45pm.

The flights are operated with Boeing MD-80 aircraft.
