AirAsia and RHB Bank launch new Credit Card in Malaysia

Travel News Asia 13 August 2004

RHB Bank Berhad (“RHB Bank”) recently unveiled its latest co-branded MasterCard which offers shoppers an additional way to redeem free air flights from AirAsia. With the “Shop and Fly” concept, card members earn valuable travel rewards called “AirAsia Ringgit” each time they charge their purchases using the card at participating merchants. These points can be used to redeem free flights from AirAsia.

Speaking at the launch, Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib, Executive Chairman, RHB Capital Berhad, said “Malaysians love to travel – with that in mind, we at RHB Bank have now made travelling even more affordable through our latest co-branded product. We are committed to continually offer innovative products and services to meet our current and future customers’ growing and changing lifestyle needs. Based on our proven track record in the credit card business, we are confident to issue more than 100,000 of this new credit card”.

“Consumer Banking is one of our Bank’s major engine of growth and profitability. Our customers count on us to keep pace with their demands for financial solutions and service excellence. We at RHB Bank strive to provide them with innovative and value-added products, and of course, giving them the best customer service experience. This is our way of rewarding our loyal customers. The launch of the “Shop and Fly” card is also timely because it coincides with the overall excitement of the Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival. RHB Bank is proud to present the AirAsia Credit Card,” added Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib.

“The payments industry is indeed soaring to new and exciting heights with Malaysia’s latest co-branded credit card by RHB Bank, AirAsia and MasterCard. We are certain that the product will prove to be a hit with Malaysians as they enjoy a multitude of benefits that now include the opportunity to fly free just by using their card. We would like to congratulate RHB Bank for this innovation,” said Jim Cheah, Vice President and Senior Country Manager, Malaysia and Brunei, MasterCard International.

Dato Pahamin A. Rajab, Chairman of AirAsia Berhad added, “We are pleased to partner RHB to develop the AirAsia credit card which I am confident will be a strong attraction for our customers. The partnership with RHB is a new development for our airline as we continue to explore ways to become a one-stop centre in the region to offer our guests services that are more than just low fares. In the 3 years that we have been in operations, we have gone from 2 domestic routes to now over 100 domestic and international daily flights to places like Bangkok, Phuket, Jakarta, and Macau."
