Radisson SAS enters Nigeria

Travel News Asia 12 December 2004

Rezidor SAS Hospitality has signed an agreement to manage the new Radisson SAS hotel in Lagos, Nigeria.

Kurt Ritter, President & CEO Rezidor SAS Hospitality, commented: “I am excited to add yet another country to our rapidly expanding portfolio in a country that has a great deal of potential and untapped opportunity for new developments. This new property in West Africa is in line with Rezidor SAS’ goal to operate 700 hotels by 2012.”

Radisson SAS Hotels and Resorts operates 140 hotels in 37 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, with another 30 projects under development. The Middle East region accounts for 13 of those properties, and the company’s expansion plans are set to double the numbers by the end of 2007.

The Radisson SAS Hotel, Lagos will be located on the waterfront of Victoria Island – the city’s business hub. The city-centre hotel will feature 150 guestrooms with a minimum room size of 34 sq.m, a restaurant, lobby bar, five meeting rooms, swimming pool and health club, as well as indoor car parking facilities.

The famous Swedish hospitality designer, Christian Lundewall, brings his 20 years of design expertise to this landmark property in West Africa. There will be a generous provision of suites with two original room styles, to take advantage of the huge demand and potential for both international travellers and the local market. It is the first one of its size and quality to be built in Lagos in the last 20 years. The Radisson SAS Hotel, Lagos is scheduled to open its doors late 2005.

Mr. Oba Otudeko, the owner’s representative and Chairman of Anchorage Leisures Ltd., said: “Our company is very pleased to have Radisson SAS as the operators of this new development, which will become the leading international hotel in Lagos.”

Lagos, one of the world’s largest cities, is Nigeria's leading port. Nigeria is the 6th largest oil producer in the world and has vast natural gas resources. Lagos International Airport is served by several main airlines and is well connected to major cities within the African Continent.
