KLM to introduce inflight SMS and Email Service

Search ASIA Travel Tips .com 10 December 2004

In February 2005, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will welcome its first Boeing 777 offering an SMS and e-mail service for passengers in World Business Class and Economy Class. This new service will also be available aboard the six Airbus A330s that will be joining the KLM fleet as of August 2005.

KLM said that future enhancement of this service, which may include in-seat internet access, will depend on developments in the industry and the feasibility and reliability of such services.

The new SMS and e-mail facility will be accessible to all passengers via the interactive entertainment system in every seat. Passengers can send messages to cell phones and e-mail addresses worldwide throughout the flight. Passengers can also receive replies to messages they have sent.

The fee for every sent and received message is USD 2.50, which can be paid with all major credit cards. KLM expects to have introduced this service aboard all 10 of its Boeing 777s by May 2005.
