Jackie Chan welcomes Real Madrid Stars to Hong Kong

Travel News Asia 8 August 2003

The visiting stars of Real Madrid Football Club were given a special welcome to Hong Kong today by the city's own "home grown" idol - international movie star Jackie Chan.

Jackie, who has been Hong Kong's official Tourism Ambassador since 1995, took time out from his busy schedule to meet the Real Madrid stars at their Wanchai hotel with Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), Clara Chong. They presented the players with some special welcome souvenirs: T-shirts with Jackie's autograph, a Hong Kong Welcomes You! badge, and crystal model junks.

Jackie has been in the city helping the HKTB this past week with a number of activities in support of Hong Kong's Global Tourism Revival Campaign. Last week he participated in the filming of a new global television commercial, and yesterday he personally welcomed more than 200 of his Japanese, US and European fans at Hong Kong International Airport, who had just arrived on special "Meet Jackie" packages, as a way of showcasing Hong Kong's hospitality and reinforcing the Hong Kong Welcomes You! message.

The Real Madrid v China and Hong Kong Select game is another event that captured global media attention and sends a strong message to the world that life in Hong Kong is back to its exciting best. The game ended China XI 2 - Real Madrid 4.

As the pictures of the welcome are quite large we have added them on another page: Pictures of Hong Kong's Welcome for Real Madrid Stars.
