Singapore Visitor Arrivals from 13 to 19 May, 2003

During the period 13-19 May, Singapore visitor arrivals declined 70% as compared to the same period last year. Arrivals from countries like P.R. China, Japan, Hong Kong, USA and India declined over 75%. China showed the most significant drop with a decline of 92%.

The Singapore Tourism Board said that travel advisories and alerts by various countries (Japan, Australia, New Zealand, France, South Korea, Canada, Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Spain, China, Belgium, Mexico, Qatar, Ireland and Italy), as well as the cancellation of events contributed to the decline in visitor arrivals (73%) over the period of 1-19 May. During this period, P.R. China, Japan, Hong Kong, U.S.A. and Australia recorded the highest percentage decline of over 76%.

In terms of absolute arrivals, PR China, Indonesia, Japan, India and Australia registered the largest drop for this period.
