Galileo introduces E-Ticketing in Taiwan and Thailand

Travel News Asia 23 April 2003

Galileo International has received certification from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP) to offer Electronic Ticketing in Taiwan and Thailand.

In Taiwan, Galileo agencies have commenced e-ticketing with Northwest Airlines. In Thailand, Galileo agencies have started with United Airlines and Northwest Airlines. It is expected a number of other carriers will be added soon.

"We are firmly committed to expanding our e-ticketing capability to as many Asia Pacific markets as possible," said Janie Kaung, executive vice president and managing director of Galileo's Asia Pacific region. "E-tickets are clearly growing in popularity and we look forward to quickly bringing the substantial operational and cost benefits to our airline vendors and travel agent subscribers in Taiwan and Thailand."

Steve Skilbeck, General Manager of Galileo Thailand, said: "We are delighted to launch e-ticketing for Galileo users in Thailand. This will improve travel agency efficiency and reduce costs for airlines. We have many agents who are keen to start e-ticketing as quickly as possible."

Keller Mak, General Manager of Galileo Greater China, added: "Taiwan's travel sector has been quick to exploit e-commerce generally and Galileo users will certainly welcome the addition of e-ticketing to our solutions portfolio in this market."

In Asia Pacific, Galileo offers this capability in Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore, Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan and Thailand on 18 airlines in total.
