Qatar Airways launches Tripoli service

Travel News Asia 12 November 2003

Qatar Airways has added a new destination to its rapidly expanding route network with its inaugural non-stop A300-600 service to Tripoli.

Commenting on the occasion of the inaugural flight, General Manager Commercial, Mr. Mohamed Fakhri said: "We are very pleased to be able to offer this direct flight to Tripoli. The Libyan market is ready for a regular non-stop service between Doha and Tripoli,

"With tourism to Libya picking up and increasing trade relations between Libya and its Arab partners in the Gulf, this route will be providing a convenient connection between the Gulf States and the Mediterranean port of Tripoli. It will also make the Gulf States easily accessible to travellers from Libya coming through Doha International Airport," he pointed out.

The thrice-weekly flights to Tripoli will continue on to Casablanca, Morocco's commercial and tourism capital, offering a direct service between Doha and the two major North African cities.

Tripoli, the land of three cities, has been a trading post for more than 2,000 years and has much to offer its visitors. Full of history, tradition and flanked by the Mediterranean Sea on the one side and the Sahara desert on the other, the city is the starting point for both, tourists and business travellers to Libya.

Tripoli is Qatar Airways fourth destination on the African continent, and the 45th destination on the award-winning airline's international route network.

Following the recently announced services to Vienna, Austria, starting from November 19, and Singapore and Cebu in the southern Philippines, starting from December 10, 2003, Qatar Airways will be reaching 48 international destinations by early next month.

Within the next two years Qatar Airways is planning to reach 60 destinations worldwide.
