From January 10, 2009 Japan Airlines (JAL) will start operating flights between Kansai International Airport, Osaka and Gimpo International Airport in Seoul. The airline will start operating a daily service on the new route using a Boeing 767 aircraft. JAL will also start codesharing from December 1, 2008 on Korean Air Lines (KAL) operated daily flights between the two airports. On the route between Kansai and Incheon (Seoul) airports, JAL will also reduce the number of flights it operates from 21 to 14 flights per week. At present, JAL including Korean Air Lines codeshares serves South Korea on 14 routes with a total of 241 round-trip flights per week, linking Seoul, Busan and Jeju Island to 8 cities in Japan. From January 10, 2009 this will have increased to 15 routes with a total of 248 round-trip flights per week. JAL and Korean Air Lines first started codesharing in August 2004 with flights between Seoul and the regional Japanese cities of Komatsu, Niigata and Sapporo.
