The Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA) has opened its fourth specialised aviation training school. The School of Civil Aviation Safety and Security will develop and conduct aviation safety and security training programmes to help meet the industry's training needs. The school is the first new school to be set up since the establishment of SAA's three other schools in 1992.

"The setting up of the new school and the continued thrust of proactive programme development will add breadth and depth to the school's curriculum, bringing SAA a step closer to being a leading centre of learning in aviation safety and security," said Mr Lim Kim Choon, Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore. "The new school will also help advance SAA's facilitator role in the sharing of views and experience in aviation safety and security through the organisation of conferences and meetings. It has in its pipeline planned a number of major conferences to gather policy makers and professionals in the region and globally to address the latest challenges in safety and security."

The school will have, at its onset, sixteen specialised aviation safety and security programmes tailored for both local and overseas participants. These programmes are designed to address current topical subjects such as safety oversight, safety management system, aircraft accident investigation and, aviation security and risk management. The launch of the new school is timely given the International Civil Aviation Organisation's efforts to promote aviation safety and security of states and operators and the increased training demand in these areas.
