Hawaiian Airlines has appointed Gary McKoy to the company’s newly created position of senior manager – Pacific region. In his new role, McKoy has direct oversight responsibility for Hawaiian’s entire flight operations serving Sydney, Australia, Pago Pago, American Samoa, and Papeete, Tahiti. Hawaiian provides nonstop flights between each destination and Honolulu. “Gary is a prime example of Hawaiian recognizing a talented leader in the ranks and promoting from within,” said Blaine Miyasato, Hawaiian’s vice president of customer services. “He excels at customer service and perpetuating the spirit of Hawaii everywhere that Hawaiian flies.” A 17-year employee of Hawaiian, McKoy most recently served as station manager of its Sydney operations, a position he held since March 2005. He began his career at Hawaiian as a part-time customer service agent in 1990 and became a flight attendant the following year. Since then, he has taken on a wide range of challenging projects over the years that has provided him with extensive above and below-wing operational experience. Highlights include serving as project manager for the San Diego-Honolulu service launch in 2001, development of the Boeing 767-300 onboard service program, and coordinating ground handling services for Oakland Raiders’ charter flights on the mainland and Military Airlift Command flights in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. McKoy is a 1983 graduate of North Carolina State University, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics.
