Dubai is set to host the Dubai International Exhibition of the Arabic Calligraphy Art from February 22 to 28.

The fourth edition of the annual show will take place at the Dubai Cultural and Scientific Association building in Al Mamzar and will have on display works of Arabic Calligraphy Art by award-winning contemporary calligraphers.

The seven-day exhibition is taking place in cooperation with the Istanbul-based Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) with which the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) signed an agreement last year to promote Islamic art, heritage and culture and organize calligraphy shows.

A total of 21 renowned Arabic calligraphers from nine Arab and Islamic countries, including six from the UAE, will be displaying their works.

Four of the UAE calligraphers are females. The calligraphers participating in the exhibition are from Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Sudan and the US.

The inaugural ceremony will take place on February 22 at 7 pm. The exhibition will be open to the public from 5 pm to 10 pm.

In all, 80 selected works of the calligraphers will be put on show. A glossy booklet showcasing the works on display at the exhibition and details about the calligraphers has been published and will be distributed at the venue.

A series of lectures by the participating calligraphers will also take place alongside the exhibition. The exhibition will open exclusively for ladies on Saturday (February 24).

For the first time, an award for distinguished work of Arabic Calligraphy Art will be presented.
