Following its Grand Opening earlier this month, The Peak Tower is soon to offer complimentary tai chi classes held on the rooftop against the spectacular backdrop of Hong Kong. The classes will be a regular feature every Saturday morning for both residents and visitors to Hong Kong, starting from 2 December 2006. As they practise tai chi on the Peak Tower Rooftop Viewing Terrace, class participants will gain insight and appreciation for the many benefits to be derived from this ancient practice while surrounded by panoramic 360-degree views of Hong Kong’s magnificent skyline. Also referred to as “shadow boxing”, tai chi was developed many centuries ago with its graceful movements helping to balance the body’s yin and yang and doing as much for the mind and soul as for the body. Qualified instructor, Mr William Ng, is one of Hong Kong’s best-known tai chi masters, having practised this ancient art for many years. He has also performed the gentle and fluid motions of this relaxing art form before British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, during his visit to Hong Kong. Since 2000, Mr Ng has been helping to make the healthful, beguiling art of tai chi easily accessible to Hong Kong visitors and residents through his very popular classes. This traditional Chinese practice also remains one of the favourite means of keeping fit in Hong Kong, especially among the older generation. Tai chi has also proved popular with visitors to Hong Kong who find it an excellent means of relaxation, both here and once they have returned home. Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the tai chi classes are free and are held at the Viewing Terrace of The Peak Tower every Saturday morning between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Participants are also advised to wear light clothing and the class is limited to 30 people per class. The Tai chi classes are also disability friendly. See other recent news regarding: Hong Kong |
