Hertz Australia, has opened a direct-to-the-public used car sales outlet in Brisbane following the success of a pilot site in Sydney. The company is also planning to open a second site in Sydney, and one each in Melbourne and Perth before the end of 2005. The National Fleet Manager for Hertz, Mr. Stephen Short, said the new Brisbane site was in busy Breakfast Creek Road, Newstead, where a number of new and used car dealerships already exist. He said the Brisbane site would offer for sale a range of ex rental vehicles including the Toyota Echo, Corolla, Camry and Tarago, Ford Falcon and Ford Territory TX, and Nissan Maxima sedans. “All will be young vehicles, aged between nine and 24 months, all will have been maintained meticulously during their time in the Hertz fleet, and most will still be covered by the balance of a manufacturers’ warranty,” said Mr. Short. “Before being included in the Hertz Car Sales inventory, all vehicles in our Brisbane sales location will be evaluated and inspected by the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ). “Recommended repairs will be carried out before a vehicle is displayed at any Hertz Car Sales outlet, and if it does not meet our strict quality criteria it will not be offered for sale.” Mr. Short said Hertz used vehicle prices would be fixed under a “no haggle” pricing policy and typically would start from as low as A$13,900 for the Toyota Echo. He said Hertz would not accept trade-in vehicles, but would offer finance referrals. “We expect the majority of buyers will be members of the general public who are looking for a quality vehicle from a reputable source,” said Mr Short. “We also expect that some of our rental customers, having prior experience with our fleet, will be among those looking to buy vehicles from us.” The Newstead car sales outlet is managed by Mr. Brett Tonkin, who was previously the manager of the Hertz rental office in the Brisbane suburb of Boondall.
