Malaysia Airlines today announced an upgrade to its website to incorporate an online booking facility. The initial phase, encompassing flights for Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, provides a new service for Malaysia Airlines customers to book and purchase their flights with payment through credit cards. During the online purchases, passengers are offered the ability to select their seat preference, class of travel, and be able to receive confirmation onscreen or via their email. To provide further passenger convenience, Malaysia Airlines is taking the opportunity to implement ticketless travel with online purchases. Malaysia Airlines has provided a user-friendly service which will take customers through a simple five-step procedure of Flight Search; Availability; Display Price Itinerary; Traveller Information and Payment; and Confirmation. This facility will be gradually introduced for other domestic destinations from now until April 2004. On April 2004, Phase 2 will be launched and customers can expect additional options of graphical seat selection, meal selection, special assistance request, best price search and students/senior citizen fares, as well as an enhanced and more marketing oriented Malaysia Airlines Web Site. Dato' Ahmad Fuaad Dahlan, Senior General Manager of Sales, Distribution and Marketing, said, "Having successfully implemented its financial restructuring, Malaysia Airlines is now putting its efforts in enhancing its product and services. The online booking facility serves as a starting point for the introduction of other new and enhanced customer-oriented products and services". He added, "To ensure the success of this implementation, Malaysia Airlines has chosen highly reputable industry leaders, such as IBM, Citibank, and Datalex as partners in this endeavour." |
