Ryanair Grows 13% with 65 Million Passengers in 2009

Ryanair carried over 65 million passengers in 2009, an increase of over 7 million passengers (13%) on its 2008 traffic. Ryanair capped off the extraordinary year of growth by carrying 5 million passengers in December, 12% more than in December 2008.

Ryanair set a new monthly record in July 2009 when it carried over 6 million in one month for the first time, a record which it repeated every month from July to October (inclusive). August became Ryanair’s busiest month ever when over 6.9 million passengers travelled on the airline.

To celebrate another impressive year of growth, Ryanair has released 1m €8 seats for travel on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in late January and February. The seats are are available for booking on ryanair.com until midnight Sunday, 10 January 2010.

Commenting on the 2009 results, Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said, “We are delighted that over 65 million passengers travelled with Ryanair in 2009 and we are confident that even more passengers will opt for our guaranteed lowest fares in 2010.”
