Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Videos Friday, 8 January 2010

One of Thailand's premier world-class yachting hubs, the Royal Phuket Marina (RPM), was selected by TOT (Telephone Organization of Thailand) as the venue for unveiling its futuristic fiber-optic cable solution Fiber-2-U.

The prestigious showcase, which took place last month, celebrated the official introduction of Fiber-2-U in Phuket and was attended by a host of both business and government dignitaries including TOT President, Khun Varut Suvakorn.

TOT hosted an all day event including a press conference and demonstrations of its next generation power supply for high-tech appliances at RPM's newly build Luxury Waterfront Villas.

Fiber-optic technology is increasingly adopted for telecommunications, local area networks, CCTV security, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and CATV (cable). It is only now beginning to be adapted to households and a growing number of residential fiber-optic applications are being introduced as demand increases for more bandwidth.

High-speed bandwidth allows a multitude of live action HDTV cable channels, ultra high-speed internet access, live full-motion video telephones and movie theatre quality home entertainment centers to share a single optical conductor routed from room to room.

RPM has become a magnet for prestigious events since opening the 2,500 sqm RPM International Exhibition & Conference Centre – one of Phuket’s largest single indoor events spaces, paving the way for large-scale conferences and expos, and a venue for society weddings and events.
