A380 Competition Heats Up on Singapore - London Route

Qantas has launched daily Airbus A380 flights between Singapore and London, Heathrow. The flight is in addition to its daily Boeing 747-400 services and follows the recent arrival of the airline’s fifth and sixth A380 aircraft.

Qantas Regional General Manager, South East Asia, Mr Nick McGlynn said “Singapore is a key market for Qantas, both in its own right and as a key hub between Australia, Asia and Europe. With the arrival of the two new aircraft, growing our A380 fleet to six, we are pleased to now offer our Singapore customers daily A380 services to London.”

Qantas will operate two A380 services per week on QF9 operating Melbourne–Singapore–London on Mondays and Sundays in addition to the five flights per week QF31 operating Sydney–Singapore–London from Tuesday through to Saturday.

Qantas’ A380 schedule now operates as follows:

Singapore-London – daily services
Singapore-Sydney – five services per week
Singapore-Melbourne – two services per week
Sydney-Los Angeles – daily services
Melbourne-Los Angeles – three services per week

All Qantas A380 aircraft cabins have been designed by internationally acclaimed designer Marc Newson to create a stylish and comfortable interior. The Qantas A380 Economy seat has won several accolades, including the 2009 Australian International Design Award of the Year for the A380 Economy Seat. Focusing on ergonomics and comfort, the Qantas A380 Economy seat features:

• A single-beam aircraft seat, allowing more legroom.
• A seat base that moves in conjunction with recline, providing more comfort.
• Multi-adjustable headrest and cushioned armrests.
• Cushioning designed for side-sleep.
• Unique netted "footnet" leg support.
• Business and connectivity features including PC power, USB and internet ports and in-seat telephone with reply SMS functionality.
• State-of-the-art entertainment system.
