Marriott International has created a new area team to oversee the operations, customer service delivery, sales and marketing and owner relations activities for its 17 operating hotels in north China. The team is based in Beijing and is headed by newly-appointed Area Vice President Philip M. Bryson.

Henry Lee, formerly area vice president for China, has been named Area Vice President for Greater China, including Hong Kong and Macau. He is based in Hong Kong.

“We’re excited by our expansion in China and expect our portfolio in the country to reach 60 properties by the end of the year and to double by 2014,” said Craig Smith, Marriott International’s executive vice president for Asia Pacific. “China is one of the world’s most compelling tourism markets today and, within the next 10 years, it will be the world’s single largest source of international tourism and its number-one travel destination. We’re thrilled to be part of this dynamic growth and are creating the infrastructure to support our vigorous expansion plans in the country.”

Mr. Bryson joined Marriott International in 1994 as director of operations at the Aberdeen Marriott Hotel in Scotland. He was promoted to his first property general manager position two years later at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Leamington Spa, England. In the intervening years prior to his latest appointment, Mr. Bryson served as general manager at the Marriott Tudor Park Hotel & Country Club in Kent, England; the Renaissance Golden View Beach Resort in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt; the Renaissance Mumbai Hotel & Convention Centre & Lakeside Chalet Marriott Executive Apartments in Mumbai, India; and most recently, the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel in Hong Kong. Earlier in his career, he held numerous operations and food & beverage positions of increasing responsibility with several hotel companies in the United Kingdom.

A British national, Mr. Bryson is a graduate of Southport Technical College and Blackpool College of Further and Higher Education in the United Kingdom.
