Marriott is to open its first hotel in Macedonia thanks to a management agreement signed with DivelopGrupDooel.

The 180-room Skopje Marriott Hotel is expected to open in Macedonia’s capital city in early 2013 and will be located in the heart of the city center. The Skopje Marriott Hotel will be one of the first managed, internationally branded hotels in the city.

Macedonia, with a population of just over two million people, is located in the central Balkan peninsula in Southeastern Europe and is bordered by Kosovo, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Albania. Skopje, Macedonia’s capital city, has a population of approximately 500,000 people and is the hub of business and government activity including boasting a new United States embassy which opened in 2009.

A charming city with a fascinating history, Skopje is located in the northern part of Macedonia with the beautiful Vardar River flowing through the city. The Skopje Marriott Hotel will be located in the city square, the hub of business and social activity, near the Stone Bridge which represents the connection between Skopje’s past and present.
