Strong Demand for AirAsia's KL-Singapore Route

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Wednesday, 5 March 2008

AirAsia bookings to date have shown strong demand for the new 55-minute Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route since its introduction in February. Bookings for March and April have already surpassed the 50% load mark, which is a good indication that the airline is set on achieving its target of over 85% load for the sector.

From the overall bookings to date including flights from/to Kuala Lumpur, over 63% guests travel for business, while over 37% travel for leisure, mostly in small groups of two to four. Malaysians made up a total of 59% of the passengers and 41% by Singaporeans.

Kathleen Tan, Regional Head of Commercial, AirAsia, “We have pursued this route for six (6) years and finally, we are quite ecstatic to see our efforts paid off with such strong load for both ways, and most of all, we are now able to offer unique Singapore experience to our guests flying in from all over ASEAN, Australia and China with AirAsia X, and the rest of the world. We are happy to serve the latent demand for those traveling through our Kuala Lumpur hub to enter Singapore. In addition, our low fares are such an attractive pull that many people are able to make their way home over the weekend, visit friends and relatives or just go for a weekend shopping spree.”

The Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route is serviced by AirAsia’s new Airbus A320 which has a seating capacity of 180. AirAsia departs from LCC Terminal from Kuala Lumpur, and Terminal 1 of Changi International Airport, Singapore. Current fares start from RM9.99, excluding all charges, taxes etc.
