Dahra Beauty and Spa launches Green Initiative in Bangkok

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Thursday, 24 July 2008

Dahra Beauty and Spa, located in the Triple Two hotel in Bangkok, has partnered the PATT Foundation to offer a contribution to a greener planet by planting one tree for every Spa treatment.

Dahra Beauty & Spa uses natural products every day and has a commendable goal of giving something back to nature, communities and future generations by supporting such environmental initiatives.

The Plant-A-Tree-Today Foundation, or PATT, is a nonprofit organisation that implements reforestation programs, provides environmental education and tackles climate change by restoring natural forests.

Dahra’s trees will be planted in the project: “Forest Restoration and Rural Development in Ban Nong Muang”. The main objectives are:

- Restore an area of degraded land back to a thriving bio-diverse ecosystem through the planting of key local tree species

- Increase forest cover and combat climate change through the sequestration of CO2 from the atmosphere by tree with the establishment a protected carbon sink

- Increase forestry capacity and education in climate change at local level

- Raise awareness through education of the selected youth committee to see environment and environmental practices as an opportunity that leads to income generation

- Establish a village revolving funds bank, with training, to provide micro-credit loans for income generating activities and to encourage savings practices

Chris Doherty, Thailand Country Manager for PATT said, “This project ties together environmental development with sustainable economic development in local communities and fits perfectly with Dahra’s philosophy of giving back to nature and people through its spa treatments.”

John de Wit, Managing Director at Dahra Beauty & Spa added, “We believe in taking a pro-active role in creating social awareness and working towards a greener environment. Our business and this project combine two unique points. Every day we work with products directly from nature and part of our employees come from similar villages as a village revolving bank would be supporting.”
