Search ASIA Travel Tips .com Friday, 3 August 2007

The Strand, a luxury hotel in Yangon, managed by General Hotel Management (GHM) Limited, has been named one of 2007's World Best Hotels by Travel + Leisure magazine.

Built in 1901 as part of a chain of deluxe hotels in Asia including Raffles in Singapore, The Strand is recognised as a national landmark in Myanmar. Strategically situated overlooking the Yangon River, The Strand is located within the main commercial and diplomatic districts in Yangon. Completely renovated, the three-storey, late-Victorian colonial hotel possesses strong charms with its rich history.

"We are extremely proud of our achievements at The Strand," said Mr. Suhkdeep Singh, General Manager of The Strand. "It is an honour to be ranked among the World Best Hotel and particularly by individual travellers whose positive comments about our hotel have made this recognition possible. It is a tribute to how the staff works closely with guests to address their every need."

The World Best Hotels list by Travel + Leisure is determined by readers and in the 2007 list, The Strand ranked 34 among the top 100 hotels.

The best time to visit Yangon in Myanmar, is between mid October and end February. It is also pleasant to visit Myanmar during the period of end May and September despite the rainy season as the weather is nice and cool.
