British Airways extends online check-in to Families

Travel News Asia Wednesday, 6 September 2006

British Airways has extended its new online check-in facility to families, helping to take some of the stress out of family travel when planning a year-end holiday.

Families and groups of up to six will be able to check in on-line in one transaction. From the comfort of home, mum or dad can simply log on to ba.com from 24 hours in advance of their flight, choose their seats and check-in their whole family. The system is easy to use with simple step-by-step instructions and is available on more than 97% of British Airways routes.

To help families prepare in advance for their journey the airline has posted a broad range of travel information on ba.com including details of baggage allowances and airport facilities. The “Manage My Booking” function allows customers to book special child meals up to 24 hours before the flight departs as well as travel cots or infant seats. It also allows customers to select their seats from those available to ensure that the family is seated together.

Families can travel to the airport knowing that they are already checked in and seated together. On arrival at the airport, the family can hand over their luggage at the ‘Fast Bag Drop’ desk, collect their boarding passes and go straight through security to the boarding gate. British Airways ground staff are also on hand to provide extra help should customers need it.

Rob McDonald, regional marketing manager for British Airways South East Asia said, “We know that our customers look forward to their year-end holidays and to spending time with the whole family and we recognise that the process of planning and booking a holiday package for the entire family can be tedious.

“We want them to start their journey in the most relaxed way and enjoy the entire process of traveling with British Airways. Therefore we have extended the reach of our very popular on-line check-in facilities to allow families and groups to speed through the airport and arrive on board ready to enjoy their flight with us.“

Over 1.2 million children traveled with their families across British Airways’ network last year. ‘Skyflyers’ is a service dedicated to family travel, offering a range of benefits on the ground and in the air from kids packs and activity packs to special children’s meals.
