Tickets Sold Out for Hong Kong Sevens 2006

Search ASIA Travel Tips .com 6 March 2006

The intense interest in this year’s Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens, to be held at the Hong Kong Stadium from March 31 to April 2 2006, has seen all 40,000 tickets for the event sold out a month before the tournament.

In the face of growing international demand for tickets to the Hong Kong Sevens, the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union’s (HKRFU) ticketing campaign was designed to distribute as many tickets as possible within Hong Kong. Hong Kong residents enjoyed the first opportunity to purchase tickets for the event with the launch of the HKRFU’s local ticket campaign last November. In December 2005, the international ticketing campaign was launched, while the HKRFU also held a Sevens Festival and public ticket sale at the Hong Kong Stadium on 10 December.

Only 500 tickets remained after the completion of the public ticket sale in Hong Kong. To again ensure the greatest local access to tickets, the opportunity to purchase the remaining 500 tickets was allocated by a ticket ballot campaign run in local newspapers in February. The final ticket draw was successfully held on Monday 27 February 2006. Following the great response to the local ticket draw campaign, the event is now officially declared a sell-out.

Hong Kong Sevens Tournament Director Allan Payne commented on the event’s sold out status saying, “This year’s ticket campaign was again a great success with over 75% of event tickets sold in Hong Kong. We are grateful for the continued support we have received from local fans and our rugby stakeholders, whether local rugby clubs or sponsors and partners. We regret that some people may not have been able to get tickets, but it is an unavoidable aspect of the amazing success of the Hong Kong Sevens and we hope to welcome these fans back next year.”

Limited tickets remain available in select overseas markets via packages being sold by co-title sponsor Cathay Pacific.
