Travel News Asia Tuesday, 5 September 2006

In a ceremony amid the lush greenery at the National Orchid Garden, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and the National Parks Board presented popular Korean actor Kwon Sang Woo with his very own unique orchid, the Vascostylis Kwon Sang Woo.

In Singapore for the grand openings of THEFACESHOP at IMM and Marina Square from 3-4 September as part of his Asia Tour, Mr Kwon attended the orchid naming ceremony with STB’s Assistant Chief Executive (Brand & Communications) Mr Ken Low and the Director of Singapore Botanic Gardens Dr Chin See Chung.

Fans from Singapore, overseas and tourists were gathered at Burkill Hall at the National Orchid Garden to catch a glimpse of their idol at this very special orchid-naming ceremony.

The Vascostylis Kwon Sang Woo is an attractive and petite hybrid that flowers freely, bearing upright flowering sprays that are white with a light tinge of violet and with an outstanding lip which is violet-purple. The orchid, which will grow alongside others named after Bae Yong Jun, Amitabh Bachchan at the National Orchid Garden, will also be one of the tropical orchid hybrids on display at the inaugural Singapore Garden Festival (SGF) taking place at Suntec City Convention Centre from 16 -25 December 2006.
