Laguna Phuket Triathlon Entries Sold-Out to Largest Field Ever

Travel News Asia Wednesday, 29 November 2006

Entries to the 2006 Laguna Phuket Triathlon are sold-out once again this year with a record number of 745 triathletes registered for the individual race and 65 teams registered for the relay race. This is the largest number of athletes ever to participate in the event, now in its thirteenth year, and the race organizers are anticipating another spectacular event.

Hailed as Southeast Asia’s premier multisport event, the Laguna Phuket Triathlon is also considered to be The Race of Legends with triathlete heroes such as Simon Lessing, Greg Welch, Paula Newby-Fraser, Mike Pigg, Mark Allen, Peter Reid, Heather Fuhr, and Jurgen Zack as past winners and participants. This year’s race will welcome professional triathletes Greg Bennett (AUS), Massimo Cigana (ITA), Terenzo Bozzone (NZL), Samantha McGlone (CAN), Laura Bennett (USA), and Leanda Cave (GBR).

Triathletes competing in the Laguna Phuket Triathlon, which is also an Australian Ironman Qualifier, will have to battle it out on the grueling race course comprising a 1.8k swim in both sea and lagoon, 55k cycle over steep, winding hills, and 12k run within the Laguna Phuket complex.

The Laguna Phuket Triathlon, which will take place on Sunday 3 December 2006, will also have a 6k Fun Run, starting once the triathletes have transitioned to the bike course. Entry to the Fun Run is still available, but very limited. 500 athletes are expected to participate in the Fun Run, and there are currently 425 athletes registered.
