Austrian enhances Business Class with New Lie Flat Sleeper Seats

Travel News Asia Wednesday, 12 July 2006

New lie flat sleeper seats and other enhanced comforts will help make every long-haul flight a pleasure in the new Austrian Business Class. Effective from mid July 2006, Star Alliance-member Austrian will be progressively introducing a new 49-seat Business Class on its Boeing 777 aircraft which operates six times weekly from Sydney and three times weekly from Melbourne with the completion due by September 2006.

The new Austrian Business Class will be configured in a 2 x 3 x 2 seat layout, with 1.5 metres of space (60 inches) between seat rows, and at a fully reclined position the angle will be just 8 degrees, enabling passengers to stretch out and sleep.

The new Business Class lie flat sleeper seat has been equipped with a wide range of practical functions. High-quality materials, like real leather for example, were used to manufacture the chair. A variety of sophisticated elements, from the tilting reading lamp through to the extra-large screen and massage function, define a new standard of comfort:

A reading lamp with tilting arm is adjustable.

A storage compartment provides space for laptop and other personal items.

The ‘UP’ button brings the seat up from the Sleep to the Relax position at the touch of a button.

The restaurant table opens out from the armrest and transforms into a generously proportioned dining table or desk space.

The privacy screen for an undisturbed private sphere can be simply pulled up from the armrest.

Lowerable armrests make the bed wider still and even more comfortable.

The footrest lets passengers enjoy a fully extended position.

A control panel adjusts the positions of the sleeper seat according to the wishes: Sit, Relax, Sleep and Massage options are available.

The personal tilting video screen folds out with one touch, providing entertainment on extra large format screen measuring 26 cm (10.4“).

The laptop connection powers the laptop during the flight – no need for an adaptor.

The ambient lighting creates a unique lighting mood in the cabin.

The headphones, which are stored on an own hook, have a special function that cancels out background noise.

Completely redesigned colours and materials create a natural, restful atmosphere on board. Soft pillows and blankets and a special new function gently massages the back as passengers relax. All of which ensures “recharging the batteries” and passengers reach their destination fresh and fully rested.

In new Austrian Business Class, passengers will also be surprised to find a fresh, discreet aroma concept. The personal comfort kit contains wellness items including aromatic oils, moisturising essences and much more. Culinary delicacies – complemented by Austrian and international wines and the wonderful scent of fresh coffee – will complete the aromatic experience.

Top chefs from around the world grace the plate with their culinary creations, including international and Austrian delights. A ‘flying chef’ on board the aircraft personally ensures an appetising finish, presented on newly styled porcelain. The on-board sommeliers are happy to recommend the perfect wine to complement the choice of meal. In the new Austrian Business Class a genuine Viennese coffee house service with a wide selection of coffees and world-famous Austrian pastries will be also provided.
